Got competition?
If the wall in your office has an indent from where you keep banging your head trying to get the right kind of attention, read on. These three simple ideas will help your offering stand out from everything around it.
Tip 1: Know Who You’re Talking To
Zero in on who your customers are and stop trying to be “all things to all people.” It sounds simple, but this is one of the most overlooked issues in business. You can’t get attention if you don’t know who you’re trying to attract. That clarity starts with understanding who you really are as a brand.
Targeting all manufacturers is far too broad and rarely effective. What about food product manufacturers who will pay extra for “easy to clean”? Or industrial-focused blue-collar teams? Stay-at-home parents? Industry-specific CFOs?
Get inside your audience’s head. Understand what matters to them and then use that insight to do what you set out to do.
Tip 2: Define Your Position
Clearly identify your position relative to your competitors of influence. What makes your company or product stand out? What are others saying to win attention?
Look for an unsecured position that fits your value proposition and claim it. Do customers choose you because you make life easier? Help them move faster? Manage their business better? Are you produced in Small Town, Nowhere?
Anything that makes you valued, and isn’t being leveraged by your biggest competitors, is unique. That’s what you should be communicating to your target market.
Tip 3: Take the Risk to Stand Out
You won’t stand out by playing it safe. Everyone does safe.
If you want attention, do something unexpected. Rebox once took off their pants at a Las Vegas trade show (don’t look). Big Chief Meat Snacks used packaging colors no one else dared to—orange and purple.
Be bold. Proclaim your position. Standing out works best when boldness is backed by intent. It isn’t about doing more, it’s about saying the right thing. You may worry about negative attention, but that fear never stopped the brands that made their mark. If these ideas feel like a tall order, Rebox might be exactly what you need. We’re known for being a little wild, but always with purpose. Ready to get ahead? Contact Rebox for a consultation that helps you break through the noise and stand out from the crowd.
