The Day A City Fell with Clever Packaging

“They’ll never fall for it,” said the old man, shaking his head, wearily. Ten long years of war with nothing but failure heaped on failure to show for it. “They are a cunning crowd. You’ve seen for yourself how shrewd they are. You’ll never get past their guards, never mind the gates.”

“I beg to differ,” replied Odysseus. “They will be blinded by the magnificence of the gift. I stake my honor on it. We have tried strategy after strategy. And to what end? We are no better off, no closer to victory than when we first laid siege against this place. I say we have little to lose and everything to gain.”

Epeios stroked his beard, eyeing his friend thoughtfully. The idea was so far-flung, so outlandish, it had to be from the very gods themselves. What brute force could not achieve, cunning might. And so, work began on the gigantic horse, a wooden animal so large it would tower above the city walls, cleverly housing a crew of men who, under cover of darkness, would open the gates and bring Troy to its fall.

Odysseus knew a little something about packaging, even back in the 12th century.

Powerful packaging, the kind that turns heads, arrives as a gift. It appears to be one thing, while concealing something else entirely. It’s irresistible, evocative, everything-but-the-kitchen-sink, full-monty, whole-nine-yards, whole-shebang packaging. It makes you want one of them, whatever they are. Crawl-over-broken-glass kind of want.

But it’s not the main attraction.

What you’re offering the world is tucked away inside. The thing revealed only after the package is opened. The product that captures someone’s imagination and becomes part of their life until they can’t live without it. Your product.
